Sweet Kozhukattai / Modakam for Vinayagar Chaturthi


Dear Friends, Wish you all a very happy Vinayagar Chaturthi. May the God shower you with success in all that you do. Thanks to all for your wishes on my yesterday's post.

Ingredients :

For filling :

1. coconut - 1/2 Cup(Grated)
2. Jaggery - 1/2 Cup (Powdered)
3. Channa Dhal - 1/2 Cup
4. Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp

For outer covering :

1. Rice flour - 1 Cup
2. Water - 3/4 Cup - 1 Cup
3. Salt - 1/2 tsp
3. oil





Procedure :

1. Pressure cook the channa dhal.
2. Mash the dhal.
3. Take a little water in a pan. Add jaggery and cardamom powder.
4. Once jaggery get dissolved, add the coconut and channa dhal.
5. Mix them well without any lumps.
6. Wait till they become thick.
7. Cool and roll in to small balls.
8. In a bowl, take rice flour,salt and hot water.
9. Knead well and make a soft dough.
10.Grease your palms with oil. Take little amount of dough and make a ball.
11. Now, press it with your fingers gently to flatten the ball and then make a cup shape.
12. Place the filling inside. Now, bring the edges of the cup together and make a beak shape at the top.
13. Grease idly plates with oil and place the kozhukattai.
14. Steam cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
