Ragi Kozhukattai


Ragi or finger millet is one of the most nutritious millet that has its own unique texture and taste. Ragi plays an important role in preparation of healthy South Indian dishes. This ragi Kozhukattai/dumpling is one such healthy and a traditional dish which is prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi.

Ingredients :

1. Ragi flour - 1 cup
2. Rice flour - 1/4 cup
3. Jaggery - 1/2 cup (Grated)
4. Coconut shredded - 1/2 cup
5. Moong Dhal - 1/4 Cup (Dry roast till golden brown and then half Cook)
6. Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
7. Salt - 1/4 tsp
8. Ghee





Procedure :

1. Dry roast the rice flour and ragi flour together for few minutes.
2. Boil the jaggery in a little water and make a syrup. Strain the syrup and keep aside.
3. Now, combine flour, salt, cardamom powder, moong dhal and coconut.
4. Add jaggery syrup and a little quantity of hot water(if needed).
5. Make a soft dough. Divide dough in to small portions.
6. Grease hands with ghee and clamp the dough in-between the fingers.
7. Place in ghee greased idly cooker plates.
8. Steam cook for 10 minutes.
9. Serve hot or warm.
