Ripe Mango Chutney

One of my favourite chutneys which I prepare often. I like the final color and the mild flavour. This is a lovely side dish for chappathi/dosa and at times, I used to eat it with curd rice. You can prepare it with fully riped mango or raw mango. I always prefer to use ripe mango because, I hate the sour taste. This is also called as pachadi which is my mom's speciality dish.

Ingredients :

1. Raw or Ripe Mango - 1 (Cut in to thin pieces)
2. Jaggery - 1/2 Cup (Adjust to your taste)
3. Red Chilly - 2
4. Mustard - 1 tsp
5. Urid dhal - 1 tsp
6. Salt - 1/2 tsp
7. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
8. Oil - 2 tsp
9. Curry leaf - Small qty
10. Grated Coconut - 2 tsp (Optional)

Procedure :

1. In a pan, add oil. Add mustard and allow it to pop.

2. Now, add red chilly, urid dhal and curry leaf. Fry for few second.

3. Transfer to a bowl and keep aside.

4. Now, add cut mango pieces, turmeric powder and salt to the pan and cook on medium heat with little water.

5. After, about 15 minutes add jaggery and mix well.

6. Close the pan and cook for another 15 - 20 minutes.

7. Switch of the stove, add the contents from bowl.

8. Add grated coconut and mix well.

9. Serve with chappathi or dosa.

Note: Adding ginger would also give a nice taste and flavour.

This participates in "Think Beyond the Usual - Soup, Curry and Chutney with Fruits" event hosted by me.
