Guest Post - 43 : Today's Guest - Shama

We have Shama from Easy2cook Recipes is with us today. She holds Masters degree in Business Administration. She is from a very big joint family. She has lot of things to share with us. Let us hear from her...

Nithu's Kitchen : Tell us about you Shama.
Shama : I am graduated in B.E and Post graduated in MBA . At present , I'm a house wife taking care of my 3 year old cute daughter , Deshna .I am a native of the Temple City , Madurai , TamilNadu . Born and brought up in a well educated joint family of nearly 20 members . My father has 3 brothers and 1 sister . You can imagine how much we(my cousins and myself) were pampered .

Nithu's Kitchen : Sounds like you had a very enjoyable childhood days. Tell us how your Grandma, Mom and Aunts used to share their kitchen work.
Shama : My granny would be the chief cook and tutor for all her four daughters-in-law. She used to grind all the masalas instantly using 'AMMI' . She trained them in the same way. Even today , I could still remember the days, when mom and aunt used 'AATU KULAVI' for idli-dosa batter. One would be grinding while the other one would be helping her.Sometimes both would hold and grind. During my childhood days , I enjoyed many varietes of special recipes . My mom and my aunts had their own style of cooking and each one had their special recipe.

Nithu's Kitchen : When did you start to cook.
Shama : To be very frank , I started to cook only a week before my marriage.

Nithu's Kitchen : What were the few first dishes you tried.
Shama : I cooked the basic traditional recipes like sambar, dal, rasam and quick veggie fries.

Nithu's Kitchen : Who is your best critic.
Shama : My hubby. His positive comments and support made me to try different recipes.

Nithu's Kitchen : How much effort you take to keep your food healthy?
Shama : I am a kind of person who never wishes to make a usual menu everyweek or get trapped within that tradition. I made a routine to use all the vegetables in my menu. I take care that a particular veggie is not repeated in 15 days. I store vegetables only for a week. Once a week, my menu would include lentils like green gram , channa , cowpeas etc.

Nithu's Kitchen : What does your blog focus?
Shama : My space would give you all simple recipes which I learnt from my mom , granny , aunts , cousins , TV Shows , Magazines and sometimes my own experiments .

Nithu's Kitchen : What do you have today to share with us? why did you select this dish?
Shama : Karupatti(palm sugar) idiyappam is one of my most favourite dishes. You can either have it as a breakfast or as evening snack. It has its own unique taste .Try and taste this recipe, I'm sure you will definetly enjoy its taste.

Palm sugar syrup - sufficient to knead the flour .Boil 200 gms of sugar with sufficent water . Once it dissolves, allow it to cool and filter the impurities .

METHOD OF PREPARATION :

1) Knead soft dough with rice flour ,syrup and ghee.
2) Fill an 'idiyappam' presser with the dough and press it on to idli plates and steam for 5-10 minutes.
