Muttaikos karakari/Cabbage curry

My friend has been asking me for easy veggie curry recipes.I gave him one with potato few days ago and he liked it and asked for other recipes too.This cabbage curry is very quick and easy to make.Guess,all would find this recipe easy and tasty.

Cabbage is said to have lots of medicinal properties.Eating cabbage regularly reduces the risk of cancer.It also reduces the bad chlosterol that hardens arteries.It is a great antacid to fight stomach ulcers.


1.Cabbage - 2 Cup(Finely chopped)
2.Onion - 1/2 Cup(Finely chopped)
3.Channa dhal - 2 tsp
4.Sambar powder - 1 tsp(add more or less depending on your taste)
5.Salt - Needed qty
6.Water - 1/4 Cup
7.Oil - 1 tbs
8.Mustard - 1 tsp
9.Urid dhal - 1 tsp
10.Curry leaf - Small qty
11.Coriander - Small qty


1.In a pan,add oil and the add mustard.Allow it pop.
2.Now,add urid dhal and then add onion.Fry till golden brown.
3.Keep the fried onion in a bowl.
4.Now,in the same pan add cabbage,sambar powder,salt,channa dhal and water.Mix well
5.Close the pan with a lid.Low the flame and allow to cook for about 15-20 minutes with occasional stirring.
6.Once the cooking is done,add the fried onion.Mix well.
7.Garnish with curry and coriander leaf.
8.This can be used as a side dish not only for rice but also for chappathi/paratha.

Note:If you have channa dhal,add it otherwise dont worry about it.This curry will taste good even without the channa dhal.
